Collecting: Medicine Bags

Please visit my friends Emily & Steve to see more beautiful beaded Medicine Bags & clay painted Parfleche Bags by an amazing Montana artist!!!

The Collecting: Medicine Bags series is inspired by my appreciation of the Native American culture. These beautifully beaded bags are made by the incredible artist of Montana for Sacred Ways. Each one is uniquely crafted & are prized for their museum quality. Montana-Made makes one of a kind treasures and, because of his attention to authentic detail, his pieces are collected all over the world! They are lovely to look at & to hold which encouraged me to photograph the medicine bags of my personal collection. I use them regularly in meditation & remembrance ceremonies, while some are displayed in my studio & my home. Now you, too, can begin your collection right here & now!

Feathers

The Feathers series is inspired by my appreciation of the inherently profound beauty of a bird's plumage. These found & gifted feathers are part of my small collection that I have on display, in vintage vases & on shelves in my antique cabinets at home. Plumes in my collection come from my travels north, east & west, found along trails in the forests or in dunes along the shore of the ocean. Some were even discovered in the backyard of my childhood home while gifted feathers come to me from friends who live near & far.

Various birds & their plumages, historically, have been valued for their utilitarian, cultural & religious uses throughout the world. Eagle & hawk feathers have immense spiritual value to the Native Indian tribes as religious objects, while the bald eagle & the turkey serve as cultural icons to the United States. Ancient Egyptians chose the hawk as their sacred mythological icon because of its swift flight across the sky.

Collages: Of Collections

This collage series was inspired by the art of collecting!  I am no stranger to this form of creative endeavor and as much as I enjoy scouting, scoring & gathering my collections, what I really enjoy is showcasing them.  Visual display is such an important aspect to the art of collecting.  You can attract (or repel) people by the mood of your display!  Collections can be as simple as 3 pieces or as complex as 100!  Collections can consist of items as small as antique buttons or as large as automobiles!  Whether it's your hobby or your work make it fun & do it with passion!  So tell me...what do you collect?

Collages: Dream Home

I don't have a home, per se, as I live in an apartment in the heart of a grand city.  But I often dream of having a home, or should I say a house!  It leaves me wondering if I did, have a house that I could call home...what it would look like...what would it sound like...where would it be???  Would it rest alongside a babbling brook, or be hidden on mountain top?  Would it stand stately next to a tall, oak tree, or shimmy up to a lakeside dock?  Would it be made of glass, brick or hand-hewn log, and how many stories could it tell me?  One thing for certain, it would warm my heart & cradle my soul!  So tell me, tell me a little about your home...the taste, the color or the look of it!
